University Overview
Shanxi University of Chinese Medicine was approved for establishment by the State Council in 1982 and commenced operations by admitting students from the former class of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Shanxi Medical College in 1986. It was formally established as an independent institution by the former State Education Commission in 1989. In 2000, it was authorized to confer master's degrees, and in 2017, it was renamed from Shanxi College of Traditional Chinese Medicine to Shanxi University of Chinese Medicine upon approval by the Ministry of Education. In 2024, it was approved to confer doctoral degrees.
As a founding member, the university joined the Belt and Road Alliance for Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is also a member of the Belt and Road International Medical Education Alliance and one of the initiators of its Chinese Medicine Sub-Alliance. The university is among the institutions designated to host Chinese Government Scholarship students. It is one of the first pilot universities for the Excellence in Doctor (TCM) Education and Training Program under the Ministry of Education and a Demonstration University for Deepening Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Reform in Shanxi Province. For over 20 consecutive years, the university has undertaken the teaching tasks of the Acupuncture Technology Training Program for Developing Countries organized by the Ministry of Commerce. It has also established sound cooperative relationships with academic institutions in more than 20 countries, including the United Kingdom, Australia, Slovakia, and Malaysia.
Admission Requirements and Programs
Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens with valid foreign passports and be in good physical and mental health. Applicants for all admission categories must be at least 18 years old. Chinese citizens from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan who emigrate to foreign countries and apply to study in China as foreign students must have a record of actually living abroad for more than 2 years, as evidenced by entry and exit stamps.

I. Application Documents (Original scanned copies are required)
1. A detailed account of the applicant's educational and work experience from high school to their most recent qualification, along with certifications.
2. Passport: A scanned copy of the applicant's passport homepage, with a validity period of no less than one year.
3. Highest Educational Qualification: A copy of the highest degree certificate and transcript. (If the documents are not in Chinese or English, notarized translations must be provided.)
4. Language Proficiency: HSK Level 4 certificate for undergraduate applicants, HSK Level 5 certificate for master's and doctoral applicants, valid within two years.
5. CSCA (China Scholastic Competency Assessment) Score Report (for undergraduate applicants).
6. Financial Guarantee: Proof of financial support (bank statements from guardians for the past 12 months and a financial guarantee letter).
7. Study Plan: A detailed study plan in Chinese or English (over 1000 words), outlining the applicant's understanding of the chosen program and university, future career prospects, personal development plans, and reasons for choosing SXUCM.
8. Recommendation Letters: Two letters of recommendation from professors or associate professors (required for master's and doctoral applicants).
9. Certificate of No Criminal Record: Valid within six months of the application submission date.
10. Physical Examination Record: Conducted within three months prior to application.
11. Other Supporting Materials: As deemed necessary by the applicant.

IV. Accommodation
Accommodation is provided in the Chunhua International Student Apartments at Shanxi University of Chinese Medicine, featuring double rooms.
V. Scholarships
Shanxi Government Scholarship for International Students is available, with awards granted based on academic merit.
VI. Admission
1. Following a successful review of the application materials, the university will admit candidates based on their academic merit and the information provided.
2. Once admitted, the university will re-examine the original application documents. Should any discrepancies, inconsistencies, or falsifications be identified, the university retains the right to rescind the applicant's admission offer.
3. The "Admission Notice" and accompanying materials will be dispatched after the student has confirmed their mailing address.
VII. Registration
1. Visa Application: Admitted students must apply for an X1 visa (more than 6 months' study) at their local Chinese embassy or consulate with their JW201/202 form and admission letter.
2. Residence Permit: Within 30 days of arrival in China, students must convert their X1 visa into a residence permit.
